I found a pattern in THE MOST AMAZING haberdashery in Shrewsbury (wow, if I had a place like that near me I would literally be bankrupt) for a 1952 dress with a big circle-skirt. It required the best part of four metres of fabric and a good deal of time and effort.
It's not perfect, and it could still do with a few adjustments, but I will certainly wear it out and about.
